North America continues to experience the highest drug-related mortality rate in the world, accounting for 1-in-4 drug-related deaths globally. The conversation addressing the current heroin crisis, not only in Nassau and Suffolk counties, but across the nation needs to continue. This presentation will discuss the prevalence and dangers of opioid use, the role of mental health problems and what each person as a service provider and community member can contribute to secure better outcomes for the future.
